Please Congratulate Nikki Escobar for Placing 2nd place at CIF Southern Section Track and Meet and qualifying to Masters this season.

Nikki represented Bell Gardens at the ALMONT league very well. She competed against several future D1 college athletes and held her own.

Not since Michael Glanville, in the 90's, has BG had an athlete make it so far.

She is special and please congratulate her.  I personally thank her for her commitment to excellence both on and off the field!

Congrats to sophomore Jiselle Cabrera for being named to the Division 4AA Southern Section All-CIF team!

Cabrera's recognition from coaches in the division comes after a fine season where she led the Lady Lancers in scoring, assists, and steals, and was second on the team in rebounding.

Still Here - Rowan Blanchard

Featuring art and writing from her favorite photographers, poets, and friends alongside her own journal entries and snapshots, STILL HERE is an unedited look at Rowan Blanchard's inner life--and a poignant representation of teen life in general. Alongside Rowan's own raw diary entries, poems, and personal photos are taped in letters, photos, and poems from her friends who inspire her, like the poet rupi kaur, photographer Gia Coppola, and writer Jenny Zhang, among others. The result is an intimate portrayal of modern girlhood and a thoughtful reflection on what it means to be a teenager in today's world.

Rookie on love - Tavi Gevinson

A single-subject anthology about the heart's most powerful emotion, edited by Tavi Gevinson. Featuring exclusive, never-before-seen essays, poems, comics, and interviews from contributors like Jenny Zhang, Emma Straub, Hilton Als, Janet Mock, John Green, Rainbow Rowell, Gabourey Sidibe, Mitski, Alessia Cara, Etgar Keret, Margo Jefferson, Sarah Manguso, Durga Chew-Bose, and many more!

When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir - Patrisse Khan-Cullors and Asha Bandele’s with a forward by Angela Davis

When They Call You a Terrorist is Patrisse Khan-Cullors and Asha Bandele’s reflection on humanity. It is an empowering account of survival, strength and resilience and a call to action to change the culture that declares innocent Black life expendable. A poetic and powerful memoir about what it means to be a Black woman in America—and the co-founding of a movement that demands justice for all in the land of the free.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl - Phoebe Gloeckner

This is the story of an adolescent troubled by the discontinuity between what she thinks and feels and what she observes in those around her. The Diary of a Teenage Girl offers a searing comment on adult society as seen through the eyes of a young woman on the verge of joining it. In this unusual novel, artist and writer Phoebe Gloeckner presents a pivotal year in a girl's life, recounted in diary pages and illustrations, with full narrative sequences in comics form.

The House of the Spirits - Isabel Allende

In one of the most important and beloved Latin American works of the twentieth century, Isabel Allende weaves a luminous tapestry of three generations of the Trueba family, revealing both triumphs and tragedies. The House of the Spirits is an enthralling saga that spans decades and lives, twining the personal and the political into an epic novel of love, magic, and fate.

Opposition - Juliann McCandless

Opposition is a book comprised of 16 raw and honest issue-oriented conversations through the months leading up to and during a Donald Trump presidency, with a diverse group of women and femmes who work mainly within the fashion and visual art industries. The goal of these conversations aims to not only document the goals, fears, hopes, political opinions and activism at this critical time in history, but to also spark a conversation that promotes critical thinking and encourages readers to hold their politicians accountable and fight for the changes they wish to see within their own communities. Furthermore, these interviews are intended to highlight a new wave of young feminists who believe feminism is and has to be Intersectional; representing people of color, trans people, queer people, gender non-binary people, low-income people, people with disabilities and people in the developing world.

Too much and not the mood - Durga Chew-Bose

Too much and not the mood is a lyrical and piercingly insightful collection of essays, letters (to her grandmother, to the basketball star Michael Jordan, to Death), and her own brand of essay-meets-prose poetry about identity and culture. Too Much and Not the Mood is a beautiful and surprising exploration of what it means to be a first-generation, creative young woman working today.

The following are excerpts from pieces written by your fellow peers on the matter of the recent school shooting. Although one may feel consumed by fear and uncertainty, a deep and powerful force of hope lies in the dark.

- Lit force Cabinet

"I feel different than I did a few days ago, I don't wake up in the morning the same way that I used to. I wake with fear"

- Anonymous

"Anguish and uncertainty have found a place on my parents face

Will they see their flowers bloom or

will they have to see their petals wilt

...

My heart pounds and ears muffle

My palms begin to perspire

and my mind beings to wonder

...

As people lose a sense of the truth and their hearts begin to harden

A heart of rock and not of flesh"

- Anonymous

"Shootings happen so much in America, but we always push it out or don't care. Until it happens to us then that's when we will put serious measures into changing things in this school. We shouldn't wait for something to happen. We should be aware now!"

- Anonymous

"I fear the ongoing deliberation. Pondering the issue might create something much more bigger"

- Anonymous

"I think of the families who lost their loved ones..."

- Anonomyous

"I fear the time in which my children will be attending school... Will they be safe?"

- Anonymous

"I imagine a school where I can feel safe"

- Lanie Kodras

The Boys Varsity soccer team beat Keppel 4-0 on thursday to improve there almont league record to 5-1(13-6-3 overall) and remain in second place in Almont league play. The Lancers will next  host Montebello on Tuesday at 315pm. Montebello is currently in First place at 6-0, 16-1-3 overall on the season and ranked #3 in the CIF Division 2 Boys Soccer. Montebello beat BG at Montebello earlier in the season 3-1, In that match the Lancers played the second half of the match with  one player short only nine players due to a controversial red card and without starting goal keeper Jordan Gallardo and  fowards Juan Magallanes and Ricardo Naranjo who were all injured. All three players are back and expect to play against Montebello. The only Lancer goal was scored by foward David Cadena to begin the second half on a breakaway play in 30 seconds to start second half. A Lancer win would create a tie for first place in the Almont league with Montebello, there are no tie breakers in Almont league soccer matches both teams are in Division 2. The Lancers need the win to secure at least a possible CO- Almont League Championship a tie or lost would give the Lancers  most likely second place in the league andMontebello the advantage to win The Almont League with only three remaining matches on the season. We invite everyone Students, Teachers, Staff, Administration to come out and support The Boys Varsity Soccer tean to victory! BEAT THE OILERS!. The Boys JV Soccer team is currently 6-0 in first place in Almont league play! The JV team game will follow the Varsity game at 445pm.
